Richard W. Protzmann


Richard is an associate in the Newport Beach office and focuses his practice on areas of business, insurance, real estate, and construction disputes.  Richard represents corporations, real estate developers, and general contractors in all litigation matters.  He has extensive experience in complex business litigation, construction, contractual, insurance bad faith, trademark, and copyright issues.  

Richard has an established reputation as a driven, pragmatic, solution-oriented attorney who succeeds for his clients in all situations.  He is able to navigate complex legal issues quickly and efficiently to save his clients money and achieve desired results.  Richard represents large and small business entities across California in federal court, state court, and alternative dispute resolution venues.

Outside of litigation, Richard advises clients with general corporate issues, restructuring, contract negotiations, and risk management strategies.  Richard spends significant time helping his clients avoid the pitfalls and risks in litigation by proactively advising his clients on strategies to avoid litigation, manage the risks in litigation, and preserve business relationships following a dispute.

Richard took a leave of absence from Newmeyer & Dillion to join the United States Marine Corps in 2015.  He received his commission as a second lieutenant in August 2015 and attended follow-on training in Quantico, Virginia, and Twentynine Palms, California.  Richard returned to the firm in July 2016 and currently serves as a company commander in his reserve unit in San Diego, California.
