Aaron B. Shumway

Aaron Shumway is an associate in the Las Vegas, Nevada office and enjoys advocating for the legal rights of his clients in complex commercial and civil litigation matters.  He focuses his practice on construction litigation, employment law, as well as real estate including title/escrow liability.

Aaron has broad experience representing developers, subcontractors and design professionals.  He invests his time learning each aspect of construction projects and consulting with experts in order to find innovative solutions to unique problems.  He recently helped secure a favorable settlement for a client potentially facing personal liability following the collapse of a prefabricated steel-framed building.  The settlement was reached after taking multiple out-of-state depositions that included architects, engineers, and other contractors.

As the workplace becomes more and more regulated, today’s employers also face an increased number of discrimination and harassment claims.  Aaron finds satisfaction in successfully defending employers against meritless claims during both the administrative agency level as well as litigation.  He has successfully defended employers against workplace safety citations before Nevada’s Occupational Safety and Health Review Board as well as matters falling under the purview of Federal OSHA.  In addition, he has helped resolve discrimination and harassment claims brought before the Nevada Equal Rights Commission (NERC), the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), as well as the Nevada Federal District Court.  Aaron also has experience handling wrongful terminations, classification issues, wage & hour claims, and other employment-related tort claims.

Aaron has also developed a proficiency litigating real estate matters, including title and escrow liability.  He has successfully brought, as well as defended, quiet title actions for financial institutions resulting in the removal of restrictive covenants, the release of mechanic’s liens, and the determination of lien priority.  Aaron understands the role title and escrow companies play in real estate transactions and works diligently to defend their interests when faced with the prospect of liability.

In addition to the above practice areas, Aaron has insurance coverage experience relating to commercial and homeowner insurance policies.  He also clerked for the honorable Cynthia “Dianne” Steel of the Eighth Judicial District Court, gaining valuable insight into Nevada’s judiciary.  Outside of the office, Aaron volunteers as a leader in the Boy Scouts of America and is an Eagle Scout.
