Richard W. Protzmann
Richard Protzmann is an associate in the Newport Beach office. Richard has an established practice in both transactional and business litigation matters. He advises clients that are involved in multiple industries including real estate, construction, finance, insurance, marketing, eminent domain, and technology. He also advises clients with general corporate issues, assists with restructuring of business entities, contract negotiations, and general risk management strategies outside of litigation.
Richard obtained a certificate in dispute resolution from the prestigious Straus Institute of Dispute Resolution, focusing on international commercial disputes and arbitration practice. He advises clients on negotiating and drafting dispute resolution provisions and litigates disputes in arbitration, judicial reference, and other ADR forums.
Prior to joining Newmeyer & Dillion, Richard worked as a contract attorney with O’Melveny & Myers in Century City and Newport Beach. He also externed with the United States Navy, Judge Advocate General, in Point Mugu, California, Staff Judge Advocate Office, and advised tenant commands on legal issues relating to administrative, employment, environmental, and national security law.
Richard took a leave of absence to attend Marine Officer Candidate School in 2015. He commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Marine Reserves in August 2015. Since that time, he completed all of his officer training and is currently serving with his reserve unit at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar near San Diego, California. He returned to Newmeyer & Dillion in July 2016.
Richard attended Principia College in Illinois where he was the recipient of the Clayton D. Ford Award for excellence in the field of government and law. At Pepperdine Law School, Richard was a senior member of the Pepperdine Law Review, a chairman on the Moot Court Executive Board, and member of the Phi Delta Phi Honors Society.
Richard is a competitive ice hockey player and played semi-professionally in the Western States Hockey League. Away from the ice, he also enjoys surfing, playing golf, and traveling with his family.
