Biography

Mr. Cowles is a partner in the Newport Beach office and specializes in representing developers in construction litigation, policyholders in insurance coverage litigation, and companies in complex business litigation.

Mr. Cowles is a partner in the Newport Beach office and specializes in representing companies in complex business litigation, developers in construction litigation, and policyholders in insurance coverage litigation.  He was recently named to the 2010 roster of “Southern California Super Lawyers,” a peer-review survey and compilation of the top 5 percent of attorneys in the area, produced by Law & Politics, a Minneapolis based trade publication.

Mr. Cowles offers a full service representation of his clients by litigating their business disputes and also assisting them with their insurance coverage needs. Mr. Cowles has an extensive trial and appellate practice. He has been the “first chair” counsel in bench trials, jury trials, and before the California Courts of Appeal. Mr. Cowles represented the insured in the insurance coverage action, Scottsdale Ins. Co. v. Superior Court (1997) 59 Cal.App.4th 263.

Mr. Cowles graduated magna cum laude from Pepperdine University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Philosophy and Economics in 1989. He obtained his Juris Doctor Degree from the University of Virginia in 1992.

Mr. Cowles has lectured on various litigation and construction defect topics, published articles in such periodicals as the Orange County Business Journal, and he is the author of the CEB (Continuing Education of the Bar) publication: Trade Secrets Practice in California, Insurance Coverage for Misappropriation Claims section, supp. He has been a member of the Lincoln Club of Orange County, the International Christian Chamber of Commerce, and an executive board member of the Pepperdine University, Alumni Association for Orange County.  Mr. Cowles is also a member of the business litigation, construction law, and insurance law sections of the Orange County Bar Association.
