Biography
Mr. O’Hara is a litigation partner in the Newport Beach office with a varied civil litigation practice involving construction, insurance, real estate and class action claims.
His construction practice focuses on the representation of residential real estate developers in complex, multi-party construction defect matters and counseling of these clients in risk management, insurance and alternative dispute resolution. In the insurance arena, he represents corporate and individual policyholders in disputes with insurers and is adept in insurance bad faith litigation. Mr. O’Hara has also been involved in a wide range of other civil business litigation throughout his career, including breach of contract claims, partnership disputes, fraud claims, franchise litigation, lender liability and unfair business practice claims. His most recent jury trial involved defending an investor in a dietary supplement company against damage claims exceeding $40 million.
Mr. O’Hara received his B.A. degree in 1982 from the University of California, Irvine and his J.D. degree from Catholic University in 1985. Mr. O’Hara briefly worked in Washington, D.C. following law school for a firm specializing in communications law and broadcast regulation.
He is admitted to practice law in California, Nevada, the District of Columbia, the U.S. Supreme Court and the Federal courts in California and Nevada. Mr. O’Hara has been very active in community and charitable activities for the last fifteen years. These activities include coaching and serving on boards of directors for Little League, AYSO Soccer and National Junior Basketball, serving on the local board for the Indian Guides arm of the YMCA, coaching and judging high school mock trial teams as part of the Constitutional Rights Foundation program and serving as campaign director for a local city council candidate.
Mr. O’Hara writes and lectures frequently on litigation, construction defect and insurance matters. His articles have appeared in Shepard’s California Construction Law Reporter, the Orange County Bar Association Journal and the Los Angeles Daily Journal Verdicts and Settlements section. His speaking engagements include numerous presentations at seminars sponsored by Mealey’s Publications, West Coast Casualty, Alexander Publications, Lorman and the Orange County Bar Association.
