Biography
Jay Freedman is a partner in the Newport Beach office.
His practice includes construction and business litigation and he specializes in the representation of residential developers and general contractors in complex business and construction disputes. He has extensive experience in all aspects of construction matters and has been the lead attorney representing the developer in numerous, multi-million dollar cases. Mr. Freedman has also represented commercial property owners in construction matters and has significant business litigation experience in the areas of partnership and contract disputes. Mr. Freedman’s work on behalf of the FDIC resulted in Alltel Information Services, Inc. v. FDIC, 970 F.Supp. 775 (C.D. Cal.), which decision was affirmed by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.
As a Certified Green Building Professional, Mr. Freedman is able to advise his clients on all aspects of “green” building from pre-construction contract formation and risk management through any post-construction disputes. He has spoken frequently on the additional risks associated with green building, and has been published in Smart Business, the California Real Estate Journal, California Builder, FMI Quarterly and Builder & Developer. He is also a member of the Construction Quality & Sustainable Building Committee of the Building Industry Association of Orange County.
Mr. Freedman’s practice also includes his work as a private arbitrator for construction, real estate, business and consumer matters. He is a member of the American Arbitration Association Roster of Arbitrators, the Orange County Superior Court Arbitration Panel and is a certified arbitrator with the Council of Better Business Bureaus.
Mr. Freedman received his B.A. from California State Polytechnic University-Pomona and his J.D. from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, where he was a member of the St. Thomas More Law Honor Society, an editor on the Loyola Law Review and the recipient of two merit scholarships.
